Our story
Phoenix Police Department · End of watch May 19, 2016

Who he was
David Glasser served the people of Phoenix as a police officer for twelve years, most recently with the department's Neighborhood Enforcement Team, the officers who work closest to the community, block by block.
Phoenix's police chief called him "larger than life." At six-foot-five he was hard to miss, and those who knew him say he was even harder to forget. He was a husband, and a father to a young son and daughter.
On May 18, 2016, David was shot while responding to a call in Laveen, and he died the next day. He was 34. Even then he kept giving: as an organ donor, his final act helped others live.
Today the foundation in his name brings officers and kids together at Christmas, at the start of every school year, and on the court. Every camp and league day carries his name forward.
The David Glasser Foundation
“The David Glasser Foundation exists to provide opportunities for Law Enforcement Officers and the people they serve to connect and learn through community events and resources.”
The foundation's stated mission · 501(c)(3) public charity
A Christmastime event pairing officers with kids from the community.
Getting kids ready for the school year with the supplies they need.
Camps and leagues where kids, coaches and officers share the court. That's where this program comes in.

Why sports
On a basketball court, everyone is learning the same drills, cheering the same buckets and shaking the same hands after the game. That's the kind of everyday connection the foundation was built to create, between kids, families and the officers who serve them.
David Glasser Youth Sports
David Glasser Youth Sports is a non-profit youth basketball program in Goodyear, Arizona, and an official Jr. NBA program, named in honor of Officer David Glasser.
We run skills camps and league seasons for boys and girls age 14 and under. Coaches teach the fundamentals, and just as much, how to be a good teammate: show up, work hard, and respect everyone on the floor.
Every season is a chance to do what David cared about: bring kids, families and the community together.
